Germany is Italy’s most important trading partner within the European Union, while Italy positioned itself as one of Germany’s main export partners. Despite the economic crisis and the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of German companies based in Italy has remained stable at over 2,000, while the number of Italian companies with a branch in Germany reaches 1,700 units.
In 2024 the total trade exchange between Italy and Germany amounts to 156 billion euro. During the same year Italy’s foreign trade volume with Germany amounted to 71 billion euro, while Germany exported goods and services worth 85 billion euro to Italy.
